The Tassie Solar Man, AKA George Auchterlonie from REST Energy Tasmania, is a podcast spotlighting local and interstate topics related to the solar industry. Pylon’s founder, Nelson, was invited to be a guest on the show. Here’s a recap of the episode, which you can listen to on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen.

Did you know Pylon started out with a completely different business idea? Originally Nelson and the team were building a hot water monitoring system before re-evaluating what they were passionate about and moving to solar design software. You’ll also hear how the name “Pylon” came about, and why we stopped using the name “Observer”.

You’ll also find out why we attend so many global conferences. It’s where we’re able to get the most facetime with customers and get direct feedback about what tools are most helpful and needed.

Speaking directly to installers on the regular is one way we keep on top of developing new Pylon products and features. Some of the things we’ve built have been relatively simple, but the reception to them was huge because they solved a big pain for installers – listen to the episode to find out which features!

Finally, we talked about the differences in the Australian and New Zealand solar markets. Solar has blown up in Australia, but is slower to take off in New Zealand. Find out the reasons why in the episode.

George also tells us his story of originally working with Nearmaps to design his solar jobs and why he switched to Pylon. We’ll give you a spoiler for this one, Pylon’s pay-as-you-go credits model with no lock in contracts or fees is a no-brainer for the solar industry. With fluctuating seasonal sales, only pay for what you use, when you use it.

Thanks George for having us on!
