Pylon Voted #1 Solar Design Tool 2025

Solar Nerds surveyed over 250 solar installers on their preferences for everything from solar inverters, panels, manufacturers, and design software. We’re delighted to share that Pylon was voted the best design software, with 38.3% of solar installers selecting it. This is a significant lead over second place, which had 23.4% of votes.

“Pylon was the most popular design tool by a large margin. Almost doubling the numbers of the next closest competitor,” says Imraan Thanawalla, managing director of Solar Nerds parent company Solaris Finance.

Other highlights in the awards included the top installers for each Australian state and a national winner.

When asked for their favourite panel, most installers (25.23%) said they didn’t have a preference or loyalty to any one brand. After that, the top panels were Trina, Jinko, and LONGi.

Similar to panels, the top response for favourite batteries was no preference. However, Sungrow, Tesla, and BYD were the top batteries named.

Finally, inverters did have a clear winner, with 27.1% of installers naming Fronius followed by Sungrow and SMA.

When it came to topics that keep solar installers up at night, many named high competition and getting good leads as their biggest barriers to success.
