Pylon vs. Eturnity

Choosing the right solar design tool

A Quick Summary

Eturnity is the broadest tool on this list. The Swiss company sells two things: Calculators, which you embed on your own site so a visitor gets an instant personalised PDF, and Expert, which runs the project from that lead through sales, 2D and 3D layouts, string plans and the paperwork. It covers heat pumps, EV charging and climate technology alongside solar, and it connects to 500 or so other systems.

That breadth is real and it is the reason to choose it. If your business installs heat pumps as well as panels, and your margin depends on the bill of materials being priced from live supplier feeds, Eturnity is built for that in a way Pylon is not.

Pylon is narrower and deeper: the solar design and the quote, with high-resolution imagery included rather than drone photography you supply, the customer’s own consumption data behind the battery sizing, and the e-signature built in rather than a DocuSign subscription alongside. It is €4 per project with no monthly fee, and you can read that on the pricing page. Eturnity publishes no price at all, including on its own pricing page, which offers a trial instead.

Pylon's Ideal Customer Checklist

  • Solar is what you sell, and you want the design depth rather than the breadth.
  • You would rather the imagery came with the software than fly a drone over every roof.
  • You want to know the price before a sales conversation, and to stop paying the month you stop quoting.
  • You want the signature in the same tool as the quote.

What can you not do in Eturnity?

Eturnity is a capable platform and this is not a list of things it lacks. It designs in 2D and 3D, simulates shading losses, produces string plans and prices a bill of materials better than Pylon does.

What you cannot do is find out what it costs without asking, or pay only for the projects you actually quote. You also cannot get high-resolution imagery from it, since the 3D is built from drone photography you supply, and you cannot collect a signature without a DocuSign subscription beside it. Reading the customer’s own consumption data and sizing a battery against it are not part of it either.

When should you choose Eturnity, and when Pylon?

Pylon

  • Solar is the business, and the design is where the quote is won or lost.
  • You prefer zero commitment with Pylon’s Pay-As-You-Go pricing, paying only when you use it.
  • You want imagery, signatures and consumption data included rather than assembled from three subscriptions.

Eturnity

  • You install heat pumps and climate systems as well as solar, and want them designed in one place.
  • Your margin depends on a bill of materials priced from live supplier feeds.
  • You want calculators embedded on your own site generating leads before anyone picks up the phone.
  • You are large enough that a quoted, negotiated contract suits you better than a published price.
